Internal Exams

In Saint Patrick’s College, we are committed to ensuring that each day, every child achieves their true potential.  We work closely with each pupil to support them with any difficulties they may be having, and we keep parents/guardians fully informed every step of the way.

Formal Assessments

Preparation for and completion of formal assessments, coursework/controlled assessment tasks, orals, and practicals are part of our pupil’s school day, right up until they sit their end of year examinations in June each year.  Our teachers carefully analyse available performance data pertaining to each child and personalised informed targets are set for them to stretch and challenge or enable early detection of underachievement so that intervention strategies can be implemented.

Throughout KS3, each child will complete four formal assessments per year in each subject area and these are personalised as each pupil is given their own target to achieve in all subjects studied. In KS4/5, pupils will complete between two and four in-house assessments (dependent upon course demands and requirements).

Each year, pupils will complete FA1 and FA3 during normal timetabled subject classes with FA2 and FA4 following bespoke in-house examination timetables (during December and June).

Reporting Procedures

Following the completion of each formal assessment, parents/guardians will receive a ‘Statement of Results’ via our SIMs Parent app that will illustrate how their child is progressing in each subject area. This statement will be ‘traffic lighted’ to highlight current progress and indicate whether pupils are achieving their teacher-set targets.

For pupils in Year 10-14, parents will receive an interim full Winter Subject Report in January which will detail FA2 scores alongside FA1 scores, performance ratings and teacher progress comments.

For pupils in Year 8/9/LSC, parents/guardians will receive an end of year Summer Subject Report in June which will contain the mark pupils achieved in their summer assessments alongside past formal assessment scores throughout the year, performance ratings and teacher progress comments.
